We are building database of musical examples that have a clearly identifiable emotion, and we would very much like you to participate by submitting examples of music you have composed or otherwise is the (co-)author of. Click the dropbox below to upload a sound file that you have marked with the emotion. What matters is the emotion that you feel the music has, so no need to think of what kind of emotion others may think of it.

Which emotions?

Name the sound file with the emotion that you identify it with. Emotion can be of any kind, from ‘happy’, ’sad’, ‘tender’ and ‘angry’ and into more complex ones such as ‘electrified’, ‘agitated’, ‘fiery’, ’triumphant’ and ‘voluptuous’ etc. to give you some examples. But in short, you are entirely free to use any emotion labels you may want.

Duration

The sound files should ideally be 40 seconds long and have one fairly constant emotion. The sound files should not be shorter than 20 seconds.

Before uploading

Before uploading you must give the sound file with the emotion. If you percieve the emotion to be ‘mellow’, you will simply name the sound file mellow – it’s as simple as that.

Upload SUM soundfile

What about musical style?

Any musical style goes, as the features we are dealing with are those that refer to an emotion, not those musical elements that were used for making the music. That said, we do have a preference for those styles of music where it isn’t easily possible to notate the music such as sound-art and other non-scored music forms.
